Adam Reardon, 96.9 The Game WYGM in Orlando joins Matt to talk the Week 0 matchup between Florida and Miami. Reardon grew up a Miami fan and now covers Florida, but says he bought a ticket for Saturday, and will be cheering in the stands and not working in the press box.
Miami’s starting quarterback is not who most expected? Was Reardon surprised that highly touted transfer Tate Martel did not win the job?
“No not at all, and if I were surprised I’d be pleasantly surprised,” Reardon said. “From what I understand it wasn’t even a very close competition.”
Last year Miami had a lot of fanfare surrounding their neutral site opener vs LSU and it did not go as planned for the Canes. Why will this year be different going up against another SEC power?
“I think the offense will be different,” Reardon said. “I’m going to assume Florida won’t exactly what Miami will run.”
Reardon also points to special teams. Miami expects to be much improved on special teams, giving them a better advantage in field position.
On Florida’s side of the ball where is the Gators’ biggest concern?
“Without question the offensive line,” Reardon said. “Four of five starters are gone, can they get to the level they were playing at in the bowl game in the first game.”
Finally, this game is loaded with storylines, but what is the storyline that could come out of this game that nobody is talking about?
“Can Miami get back to where they were just two years ago competing for an ACC title,” Reardon said. “It’s going to come down to can they get more consisent on offense.”
