As a woman in sports, I defy the odds on a daily basis. This day and age women are able to do more and more in the working world that they weren’t able to do decades ago.
One of the questions I get asked all of the time by aspiring female sports broadcasters is: “How did you get to where you are today?”. My answer is always the same, “By blocking out the hate and criticims from those who don’t matter.”
This industry is cut-throat, and always changing. You have to learn who the right people are to trust and take their advice in order to move forward. I get a lot of hate lashed out on via social media for being a female in my industry. You have to remember to avoid that, let it make you tougher and concentrate on your abilities.
On International Women’s Day, I want to spread that exact message. In whatever field you are working in, don’t allow others to bring you down due to your God-given gender. Work hard and the respect will come.
Happy International Women’s Day to all of the hardworking ladies out there making a difference!
