In hour two of After Further Review, Matt is joined by football insider Mike Detillier to talk all things Saints and LSU. Did anything surprise Detillier in the Saints win over the Bucs?
“Not really. I thought Nick played really well. We hadn’t really seen him since he’s been inactive most of the season,” Detillier said. “I guess you could say that was the biggest surprise. Mike Evans and that receiving core really weren’t a major factor.”
LSU’s defense surrendered 400 yards rushing and a number of big plays in the win over Ole Miss. Is this something that could hurt LSU down the road or is it a one off performance?
“Everybody that makes a big deal about this, my thing is haven’t we seen this all year long,” Detillier said. “A good quarter, a bad quarter. They haven’t put it all together yet this year. Yes it’s concerning to me down the road.”
What was Ole Miss doing that caused so many issues for the Tigers’ defense?
“They didn’t run many different plays in the second half. Plumlee made those plays work,” Detillier said. “The missed tackles, being overly aggressive at times really cost them.”
Top ranked LSU (10-0, 6-0 SEC) welcomes in Arkansas (2-8, 0-6 SEC) for the Battle for the Golden Boot. The Hogs have fired Chad Morris after a season and a half. Is there anything that the interim coach can do to make the Arkansas a challenge for the Tigers?
“I think it’s the same players,” “I don’t see anything. They are bad in every department. Offense, defense and special teams the breakdowns are terrible. They have had 8 players drafted in the last three years.”
The Saints (8-2) welcome in division rival Carolina (5-5) on Sunday with a chance to really distance themselves in the race for the NFC South. Kyle Allen has had an up and down season filling in for Cam Newton. What has led to the inconsistencies for the quarterback?
“Kyle Allen does have weapons and can make plays,” Detillier said. “But they are taking away really easy throws over the middle, and saying okay show us what else you’ve got. Last week against Atlanta’s defense he threw four interceptions.”
Mike D likes LSU 62-17 over Arkansas and the Saints over the Panthers 28-17.
The hour wraps with listener questions for Detillier during “Ask Mike.”
