Dennis Shaver talks CoVid-19’s impact on the track season.

Weekdays 3PM - 6PM

LSU Track & Field head coach joins Matt to talk how the coronavirus impacted the track season.

“We were about 10 minutes from the first gun at the Indoor NCAA Championship when it was time to go home.” Coach Shaver said. “It was pretty devastating for me, the players and all the coaches. It was the right call. I just wish they would’ve made the call before we all went.”

How is Coach Shaver and his staff passing all the extra time on their hands now?

“Of course we are reaching out to all of our Tiger people,” Coach Shaver said. “Doing a lot of recruiting via FaceTime.”

The NCAA D1 Council is voting today on the eligibility issue with student athletes in spring sports. What is Coach Shaver’s hope for the situation?

“It’s very complicated. I’ve been on many conference calls with our coach’s association just to try and get a feel for what may happen,” Coach Shaver said. “From our standpoint we feel very strongly that these kids should get a season back outdoor for sure, but indoor too if you qualified for the NCAA Championships.”
