Donaldsonville Tigers 2023 Football Season Preview

After a tough 2022 season, the Donaldsonville Tigers plan for a resurgence in the much-anticipated 2023 football season. Last year’s final scorecard read 3-7, a season that ultimately fell short of playoff contention, but with a new season comes the opportunity for redemption and revitalization. Guided by the vision of Coach Brian Richardson, the Tigers are prepared to roar back onto the field, leaving their mark in a season that holds the promise of renewed vigor and determination.

The 2022 season may have been challenging, but it served as a crucible from which lessons were forged and a foundation was laid for future triumphs. Graduation brought the departure of LB Robert Kent, an indomitable force who earned All-District and All-State recognition. Kent’s absence leaves a gap both on the field and in leadership, as his contributions of 30 tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 interception from the previous season are a testament to the skill lost.

As the 2023 campaign approaches, the Tigers’ roster presents a compelling blend of experience and emerging talent. The offensive line is poised to shine, with an impressive eight returning starters ready to pave the way for the Tigers’ offensive strategies. SR RB Blake Turner (5’10”, 175lbs) returns to anchor the ground game after leading with 300 total yards in the previous season. The quarterback position sees the emergence of Sophomore Donald Brown (5’7″, 140lbs), stepping into the spotlight to steer the Tigers’ offensive efforts.

On the defensive front, the Tigers boast a solid lineup that encompasses ten returning players. Among them are SR LB Tyriek Jupiter (5’10”, 200lbs) and DB Rayien Oatis (6’1″, 180lbs). Jupiter, a fierce tackler, led the Tigers’ defense in the previous season, while Oatis, an All-District DB, showcased his prowess with four interceptions. Their dynamic playmaking is set to bolster the Tigers’ defense, creating a formidable barrier against opposing offenses.

With determination burning bright, the Tigers prepare to take center stage on September 1st at 7:00pm, as they welcome Assumption to their home turf.
