LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron joins Off the Bench to talk football, starting with news on recruiting.
“It’s really been phenomenal,” Orgeron said. “We’ve built some great relationships. Everybody’s excited about LSU Football.”
The defensive line stepped up last Saturday in the SEC Championship, Orgeron said.
“I thought they played very well against the run,” Orgeron said. “I thought Tyler Shelvin probably had one of his best games.”
Derek Stingley Jr.’s play has been consistently impressive this year, Orgeron said.
“It’s hard to believe he’s a first-year cornerback when he plays like that,” Orgeron said. “Derek has just jelled with us from day one. He is a tremendous competitor and has a great character about himself.”
Orgeron said he had an idea of a birthday present for quarterback Joe Burrow.
“I may send him a plate of crawfish,” Orgeron said.
The analysts have played a valuable role in preparing the team this year, Orgeron said.
“I have a great group of analysts,” Orgeron said. “They’re a very motivated group.”
Cade York’s recent performance has been welcome, Orgeron said.
“Cade has ice in his veins and he’s getting better,” Orgeron said. “(I’m) so proud of him.”
Tyler Shelvin’s elite punt rush is something that he enjoys, Orgeron said.
“He loves that,” Orgeron said. “We call that technique speed bump.”
