Mark Heim of AL.com and 105.5 WNSP joins Matt to give a preview of the defending SEC Champion, Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide are coming off a season where they saw 10 players leave for the NFL. This is normal occurence every year so Matt asks, ‘does it really matter?’
“For the most part no it doesn’t matter, especially on offense,” Heim said. “There are some questions on the other side of the ball though, specifically linebacker.”
Heim points to safety as another big question mark on defense. Alabama ranked 92nd in plays given up of 20 yards or more through the air.
Along with the 10 players drafted, Alabama also lost seven assistants including both coordinators. Again high staff turnover is a normal occurence for Nick Saban and the Tide, and again Matt asks, ‘does it really matter?’
“You know I’d like to say it does, but it hasn’t proven to,” Heim said.
Some have said that this is the year Alabama ‘takes a step back,’ believe that if you will. If there is anything that could trip up this Alabama team, what is it?
“Lack of focus,” Heim said. “Saban hinted at it, its hard for these guys to get up for games.”
Alabama has won eight straight over LSU as we all know. A lot of people say LSU is once again the Tide’s biggest threat this season. Does any Alabama fan believe this?
“In the state of Alabama, no,” Heim said.
Finally will any of this matter? The lack of depth at linebacker, the replacement of seven assistants, the 10 players lost to the draft, or will the Tide keep on rolling to another SEC Championship and Playoff appearance? Heim expects them to do just that.
“I do,” Heim said. “But Georgia is getting there.”
