Mikie Mahtook talks the impact of coronavirus on MLB

Weekdays 3PM - 6PM

Phillies outfielder Mikie Mahtook joins Matt in hour three of After Further Review to discuss the impact of coronavirus on the MLB. The league today announced that opening day will be pushed back at least two weeks. What was Mahtook’s reaction?

“It’s crazy stuff. I think we kind of expecting it to happen,” Mahtook said. “We found out after the game was over. As we were shaking hands the PA announcer came over the speaker, and said that spring training games have been canceled.”

What is Mahtook’s feeling on the decision?

“I think you had to do it. There’s just so much unknown with the virus,” Mahtook said. “There’s a lot we don’t know.”

If MLB had decided to continue to play games as scheduled, would Mahtook have been uncomfortable playing?

“I don’t know if I would have been uncomfortable,” Mahtook said. “But I think people would’ve been more cautious.”
