Scott Kushner covers the Pelicans for The Advocate, and stops by to talk the improving young team.
“They are playing better and it’s really no surprise they are playing better because Jrue Holiday is playing better,” Kushner said. “Once they get this roster back together they are going to be able to show who they are.”
What went wrong for this team in the first eight games of the season?
“They could not defend anyone. I think LSU could’ve scored 100 points on them,” Kushner said. “Simultaneously, Jrue Holiday wasn’t shooting well.”
Rookie, Jaxson Hayes has emerged during this run for the Pels. Kushner tells us what has led to Hayes’ increased minutes.
“The first few games he was getting DNP-Coaches Decisions because they felt he wasn’t ready for an NBA floor,” Kushner said. “What he is though is a ton of energy, and great at blocking shots from the left side.”
Of course prized rookie Zion Williamson is still on the sideline due to injury. What is the latest with the former No. 1 pick?
“Everything we’ve heard is that he’s on schedule. Whether that’s true or not I can’t confirm,” Kushner said. “I think they are going to be super careful with him. He will probably be on a strict minutes restriction when he returns.”
