Todd Graffagnini talks Zion’s career night vs. POR.

Weekdays 3PM - 6PM

Pelicans radio play-by-play announcer Todd Graffagnini joins Matt in segement two to recap Zion’s career night vs the Blazers. Williamson went for 31, 9 and 5 in 28 minutes on Tuesday. What is the biggest difference that Graff sees in the rookie’s game from night one to now?

“I just think he is starting to figure it out in terms of what he is able to do offensively,” Graffagnini said. “He’s starting to understand how he will be defended. Portland tried a number of different things, and none of them worked. He’s just flat stronger than everyone else.”

How do you defend someone like Zion who is so dominant?

“Get what Milwaukee has. Get Giannis and Robin Lopez,” Graffagnini said. “That’s it. That’s the only team that has really frustrated him.”

Which players have benefited the most from Zion finally being on the floor for the Pels?

“I see two. Lonzo has been fabulous. In the last 21 games, Ball is basically averaging a triple-double. This is the perfect offense for Lonzo Ball to operate. Now you add in Zion Williamson,” Graffagnini said. “The other guy who has benefited is Nico Melli The spacing Zion is providing is giving Melli open looks.”

Graff says for the Pelicans to make a run at the playoffs, getting to .500 is key.
