Fresh off the trip to Spain, LSU head basketball coach, Will Wade joins Jordy and T-Bob to recap the Tigers’ trip to Europe.
“It was a good trip, I thought we had a good balance in a working trip and letting them have fun off the court,” Wade said”This is the fourth time I’ve been overseas with a team and this is the best crop of teams I’ve played.”
A lot of this trip was about seeing how the new guys react in a live game situation. By all accounts coming out of the trip they did well. Wade talks about freshman James Bishop as one who stood out.
“I thought it was a really good trip for him,” Wade said. “He understands the areas he needs to improve from now until November.”
Wade’s prized recruit, Trendon Watford also had a solid four games. The Tigers’ head man says Watford is exactly the player you think he is.
“He was our leading scorer over there,” Wade said. “We played him everywhere from point guard to the five.”
That’s strong praise, but the strongest comes when Wade mentions junior college transfer, Charles Manning.
“The best player on our team this trip was Charles Manning,” Wade said. “He’s everything we thought he was times five.”
As important as the performance on the court is, team building is also a huge part of a trip like this. Wade says that went well also.
“I thought our guys had a good time,” Wade said. “They would go in groups of 8-10 to go eat and explore.”
Wade says this is the closest team they’ve had since he’s been at LSU. Wade adds that he now knows the areas the team needs to improve on both sides of the ball.
